Easy Air Fryer Radishes

July 30, 2025 Updated: July 30, 2025 By Leanne 26 Comments

If you enjoy roasted radishes, you’ll love these Air Fryer Radishes as a quick and easy side dish! They’re seasoned with just salt, garlic powder, onion powder and oregano, and take only 20 minutes from start to finish. While raw radishes taste quite peppery, these air fried radishes are sweet, tender and mild in flavor. Serve them as a vegetable side or add them to salads and grain bowls!

This recipe was originally published in August 2020. Back then, I was using a smaller capacity (2.75 quart) air fryer. Since my go-to is now a larger capacity air fryer (5.8 quart), which impacts the air frying time, I decided to update the recipe to reflect this. While the updated recipe includes new photos and text, the recipe remains the same!

What do roasted radishes taste like?

If you’re anything like me, radishes have always been more of a salad ingredient than a side dish. They have a peppery bite, so it’s definitely an acquired taste to eat them raw.

Once roasted, however, I could eat the entire plate!

When radishes are roasted (or air fried, in this case), it brings out their natural sweetness, so they lose their peppery kick and take on more of a sweet, mellow flavor.

They also have a crisp yet tender texture, similar to roasted potatoes, which makes them pretty irresistible, especially when they’re hot and crisp straight out of the air fryer!

Ingredients and substitutions

Below is a brief overview of the ingredients and recommended substitutions. The recipe card at the end of this post includes the exact quantities used.

Radishes on a wooden board with oil and seasonings on the side.
  • Radishes – I’m using basic red radishes for this recipe, which are easily found at the grocery store.
  • Oil – Olive oil, extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil work well for this recipe.
  • Seasoning – We’re keeping it basic with a mix of salt, dried oregano, garlic powder and onion powder. (I don’t recommend using fresh garlic or oregano as they may burn in the air fryer. Dried herbs and spices also coat the radishes more evenly).

How to roast radishes in the air fryer

Below is a brief overview of the steps to make this recipe along with photos. For further details, please see the recipe card at the end of this post.

Prepped radishes on a wooden cutting board.
Step 1: Wash and pat dry the radishes. Trim the ends and slice each radish in half.
Radishes tossed with oil and seasonings in a glass bowl.
Step 2: Add the radishes to a large bowl and toss with the oil and seasonings until well coated.
Radishes arranged in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
Step 3: Arrange in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
Air fried radishes in the air fryer basket.
Step 4: Air fry on 400F for 10-12 minutes, or until fork tender. Shake the basket at the midway point to rotate them around.

Storage and reheating

These radishes are best enjoyed immediately, but if you have leftovers, they will keep in the fridge for up to 4 days.

To crisp up the edges again, I prefer to reheat them in the air fryer for 3-5 minutes at 400F or in the oven at 425F for about 5 minutes. If you microwave them, they will just get soggy.

Key recipe tips

  • Cut into even pieces: Slice the radishes in half and ensure they are all roughly the same size so they cook evenly. If your radishes are larger, you may want to quarter them.
  • Single layer: I prefer not to overlap the radishes so they air fry evenly and crisp up instead of steam. If you have a smaller air fryer, you will need to air fry the radishes in two batches.
  • Shake basket: Stop the air fryer after 5-6 minutes and shake the basket to rotate the radishes around. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Desired texture: The radishes will be fork tender and crisp after 10-12 minutes. If you prefer them softer, just air fry them for a few minutes longer.

Recipe FAQs

Why do my air fried radishes taste bitter?

Some radishes may be more peppery or bitter than others, so even when air fried, they may not mellow as much. With that said, the most likely reason is that the radishes were not air fried long enough. Just air fry them for another few minutes and this should bring out their mild, sweet flavor.

How do you prepare radishes for cooking?

You’ll want to wash your radishes first and pat them dry before air frying. (If they’re wet, they won’t crisp up as well). You may even need to scrub the radishes clean and cut off any dark spots. I usually trim off both the stem and the root, but sometimes people leave them on. If your radishes came with the leaves, you’ll want to remove those before air frying.

Description

If you enjoy roasted radishes, you’ll love these Air Fryer Radishes as a quick and easy side dish! They’re seasoned with just salt, garlic powder, onion powder and oregano, and take only 20 minutes from start to finish.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454g) radishes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Chopped fresh parsley, optional garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash and trim the radishes, scrubbing off any dirt and cutting off any dark spots. Pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Slice the radishes in half, or quarter them if large.
  3. Place the radishes in a large bowl and toss with the oil and seasonings until well combined.
  4. Arrange in a single layer in the air fryer basket and air fry at 400F for 10-12 minutes, or until fork tender. (Shake the basket at the midway point to rotate the radishes around so they cook evenly).
  5. Top with chopped fresh parsley and serve.

Notes

  1. I prefer not to overlap the radishes so they air fry evenly and crisp up instead of steam. If you have a smaller air fryer, you should air fry the radishes in two batches.
  2. The radishes will be fork tender and crisp after 10-12 minutes. If you prefer them softer or they still taste peppery, just air fry them for a few minutes longer.

Maybe I did something wrong, but I followed the recipe exactly and I did not like them. Yes, they looked just like roasted potatoes, but they were extremely bitter – not mild tasting at all! Not a fan…

Hey there. Thanks for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear the recipe didn’t turn out for you. While the texture of the radishes will be similar to roasted potatoes, they will have their own distinct flavour. Roasted radishes shouldn’t taste bitter though, so perhaps the bunch of radishes you used were overly bitter. I’ve made this recipe many times and the radishes always turn out with a mild flavour.

Had a bag of radishes, just about ready for trash. Found this recipe for using my beloved air fryer. So delicious and suprisingly different taste than raw radishes all together. Easy, tasty spice mix. Thanks for sharing

I love radishes for their bold and peppery flavour, but you’re right – whike they’re great in salads and cold soups, it’s hard to find them other use. These roasted radishes have been very trendy lately, but I still haven’t given them a try. Now, with your experience and description of the taste of roasted radishes, I’m willing to try them ASAP (I actually have a half of the package hanging in the fridge for a while, and they already look so sad – perfect for the oven lol.)

This is such a fantastic idea, Leanne! I love radishes but they’re way too peppery for the twins, so roasting them might be a way to get the kids to finally eat them. I really have to try these! Thanks so much for sharing.
