If you enjoy roasted radishes, you’ll love these Air Fryer Radishes for an easy and healthy side dish. They’re seasoned with garlic and oregano, and take just 15 minutes in the air fryer.

Have you ever roasted radishes?

If you’re anything like me, radishes have always been more of a salad ingredient than a side dish. They have a peppery bite, so it’s definitely an acquired taste to enjoy them raw in large quantities.

But roasted radishes? That’s another story. I could polish off an entire plate.

I’ve seen so many recipes for roasted or baked radishes on social media lately, I knew I had to try them. And once I did, I knew they’d be perfect for air frying. You get the same delicious results, but in less time.

What do roasted radishes taste like?

When radishes are roasted, they lose their peppery kick and take on more of a sweet taste. They’re flavour is actually quite mild.

They also have a soft and tender texture that’s similar to roasted potatoes.

And the best part? They get juicy as they roast, which makes sinking your teeth into them even more enjoyable.

It’s difficult not to eat roasted radishes right off the baking sheet. Or, in this case, straight out of the air fryer!

What you’ll need for this recipe

  • Radishes
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Dried oregano
  • Garlic and onion powder
  • Salt and pepper

How to roast radishes in the air fryer

  • Wash and trim your radishes, and pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • Slice each radish in half so they’re roughly 1-inch pieces. If your radishes are larger, you may want to quarter them.
  • Add the radishes to a large bowl and evenly coat them with oil and then toss together with the seasonings.
  • Place them in the air fryer basket and air fry on 400F for 15-17 minutes, or until fork tender. Give them a shake or stir after about 10 minutes.
  • Serve the radishes immediately while they’re hot and juicy.

Frequently asked questions

How do you prepare radishes for cooking? Whether you’re roasting, baking or air frying them, it’s important to wash your radishes in cold water and pat them dry before cooking. You may even need to scrub them and cut off any dark spots. I usually trim off both the stem and the root, but sometimes people leave them on. If the radish greens are in good shape, you can even leave those on (although I haven’t tried them in the air fryer).

Do you need to peel radishes before air frying them? No need to peel. In fact, leaving the skin on helps them get juicy and adds a lovely colour and texture.

How long should you air fry radishes to get the best results? It depends on the size of your radishes and your texture preference. In this recipe, I cut the radishes into roughly 1-inch pieces. I also like my radishes tender but not too soft. To achieve this, I air fry them for about 15-17 minutes on 400F. If your radishes are cut into larger pieces or you prefer them softer, you’ll want to air fry them for a few extra minutes. To air fry them quicker, just cut them into smaller pieces.

How do you reheat leftovers? These radishes are best enjoyed hot and juicy, right out of the air fryer. If you have leftovers, you can reheat them in the microwave or in the oven at 350F for about 10 minutes. Just note that they will not have the same texture when reheated.

Additional recipe tips and substitutions

  • Feel free to change up the seasonings and use different dried herbs and spices.
  • I like to serve these radishes as a side dish with fresh parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice. You can use other fresh herbs or serve them just as they are. Some crumbled goat cheese and/or chopped nuts sprinkled on top would be nice too.
  • The recipe instructions are based on a Philips air fryer with a 2.75 quart capacity. Depending on the size and brand of your air fryer, you may need to adjust the temperature and air frying time slightly.

Maybe I did something wrong, but I followed the recipe exactly and I did not like them. Yes, they looked just like roasted potatoes, but they were extremely bitter – not mild tasting at all! Not a fan…

Hey there. Thanks for your feedback. I’m sorry to hear the recipe didn’t turn out for you. While the texture of the radishes will be similar to roasted potatoes, they will have their own distinct flavour. Roasted radishes shouldn’t taste bitter though, so perhaps the bunch of radishes you used were overly bitter. I’ve made this recipe many times and the radishes always turn out with a mild flavour.

Had a bag of radishes, just about ready for trash. Found this recipe for using my beloved air fryer. So delicious and suprisingly different taste than raw radishes all together. Easy, tasty spice mix. Thanks for sharing

I love radishes for their bold and peppery flavour, but you’re right – whike they’re great in salads and cold soups, it’s hard to find them other use. These roasted radishes have been very trendy lately, but I still haven’t given them a try. Now, with your experience and description of the taste of roasted radishes, I’m willing to try them ASAP (I actually have a half of the package hanging in the fridge for a while, and they already look so sad – perfect for the oven lol.)

This is such a fantastic idea, Leanne! I love radishes but they’re way too peppery for the twins, so roasting them might be a way to get the kids to finally eat them. I really have to try these! Thanks so much for sharing.

It’s definitely a good way to make radishes more enjoyable for those that don’t like their peppery taste in raw form. Hope you get to try them. Thanks Katerina!
