This Air Fryer Snap Peas recipe is a quick and easy side dish with a simple seasoning of salt, pepper and garlic powder. They're similar to oven roasted snap peas, with a tender texture and a little bit of crunch, but they take just 7 minutes in the air fryer! As you don't want to overcook snap peas (they're best enjoyed only lightly cooked or raw), the air fryer is ideal for quick cooking. They're great for snacking and make the perfect side dish for busy weeknights. We usually serve them with these air fryer chicken cutlets along with some rice or quinoa.

Ingredients and substitutions
You just need 5 ingredients for this recipe!

- Snap peas - You'll need 12 ounces of raw sugar snap peas, with the ends and strings removed. (You can buy stringless or remove them yourself). Snap peas, or sugar snap peas, are edible pea pods that are a mix between snow peas and garden peas (or sweet peas). Their pods are edible, like snow peas, but they're plumper in appearance, like garden peas. (Note that you cannot eat the pods of garden peas).
- Oil - The snap peas are tossed with ½ tablespoon of oil. I used extra virgin olive oil but you can use the oil of your choice.
- Seasonings - All you need is a simple mix of salt, pepper and garlic powder. For the salt, I prefer to use sea salt or kosher salt. Feel free to change up the seasoning to make it more savory or spicy.
- Optional garnish - Sometimes I serve the snap peas with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and a drizzle of sesame oil. It's totally optional, but worth a try!
How to cook snap peas in the air fryer
Rinse the snap peas in a colander and pat them dry with a paper towel.
Remove the ends and string from each pod.
Add the peas to a large bowl and toss with the oil and seasonings.

Place the snap peas in the air fryer basket and air fry on 400F for 7-9 minutes. Shake the basket after 4 minutes to ensure they cook evenly.

Serve with sesame seeds and a drizzle of sesame oil (optional).
Frequently asked questions
Snap peas only need to be lightly cooked, so they just require 7-9 minutes in the air fryer. At 7 minutes, they will still have a slightly firm texture. If you prefer them more tender, air fry for another 1-2 minutes. Don't leave them air frying too much longer as they will just get soft.
The string can be a little tough, so I recommend removing it. You can also buy stringless snap peas if you prefer.
They're best enjoyed right away. If you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. You can reheat them in the microwave or pop them in the air fryer for a few minutes. The peas will have a softer texture when leftover, so just keep that in mind.

Key recipe tips
- When you wash the snap peas, make sure they are dried well before seasoning and air frying.
- I love the simple combo of salt, pepper and garlic, but feel free to change things up with different dried herbs and spices.
- You don't need to air fry the snap peas in a single layer, but you don't want to overcrowd your air fryer either.
- The recipe instructions are based on a Cosori 5.8 quart air fryer. You may need to adjust the temperature and air frying time slightly depending on the size and brand of your air fryer.
