We love these green beans on the side with air fryer pork schnitzel or chicken schnitzel, air fryer pork tenderloin and this air fryer cod. So good!
Ingredients for this recipe
You only need 6 ingredients for this easy side dish!
- Fresh green beans
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Garlic powder
- Dried basil and oregano
- Salt
How to prepare fresh green beans for cooking
- Make sure your green beans are fresh and crisp (they should snap if you bend them in half).
- Rinse the green beans in a colander and pat them dry with a towel.
- Trim the stems off with a sharp knife. You can also trim off the tips if you like, but if they're in good shape, I usually leave them on.
How to roast green beans in the air fryer
- Once the green beans are cleaned, trimmed and dried, place them in a large bowl.
- Add the oil and seasoning and toss until the beans are well coated.
- Place the beans in the air fryer basket and air fry on 400F for 7-10 minutes. Serve immediately.
Frequently asked questions
Green beans cook well on high heat, so I usually air fry them on 400F. If you air fry them on a lower temperature, you'll need to increase the air frying time.
If you like your green beans firm, air fry them for around 7 minutes. If you like them a little more tender, air fry them for 10 minutes. Don't over cook them as they will get too soft.
While I prefer the taste and texture of fresh green beans, you can air fry them from frozen. Set your air fryer to 400F, but add a few extra minutes to the air frying time.
You can reheat them in the microwave or pop them in the oven for a few minutes on 400F. Just note that reheated green beans may be a little softer compared to when they're fresh out of the air fryer.
Additional recipe tips and substitutions
- Garlic powder and dried herbs work best as they stick to the green beans. For that reason, I usually avoid fresh garlic and herbs in this recipe.
- I love the combo of garlic, oregano and basil, but you can just keep it simple with salt and garlic, or use other dried herbs or Italian seasoning.
- Just before serving, I like to add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the green beans, but that's totally optional. It just adds a pop of flavour and complements the garlic and herbs.
- This recipe makes enough for about 4 small side servings. You can double or triple the recipe, just make sure to air fry the green beans in batches. You want air to circulate around the beans, so don't overcrowd your air fryer.
- The recipe instructions are based on a Philips air fryer with a 2.75 quart capacity. You may need to adjust the temperature and air frying time slightly depending on the size and brand of your air fryer.
