This Air Fryer Frittata is creamy and fluffy and filled with spinach, bacon and Swiss cheese! It’s quick to assemble and hands off as it cooks in the air fryer. It’s perfect for brunch or lunch with a salad or home fries!

I’ve tested this recipe multiple times to determine the best timing and temperature so the frittata fully cooks without browning too much on top! (And, you don’t need to cover it with foil)!
A frittata is typically cooked on the stove top in a cast iron skillet, and once the egg starts to set around the edges, it’s transferred to the oven and broiled until the egg is fully set. It cooks quickly, so you need to keep an eye on it on the stove top and while it broils.
This frittata recipe uses the air fryer only, so it simplifies the process. While it takes a little longer to cook this way, it’s more hands off than the stove/oven method.

What makes this air fryer frittata recipe so good?
- This frittata is air fried at a low temperature (280F) to ensure it doesn’t brown too much on top before the middle is set. (I also use this method for my air fryer egg bites).
- You don’t need to cover the frittata with foil. In fact, I don’t recommend it as it prevents the air from circulating around the frittata and cooking it. I tested it by cooking the frittata at 350F covered with foil, and after 25 minutes, it was still runny in the middle. I had to cook it for another 10 minutes, uncovered, in order for it to cook and then it browned too much on top.
Ingredients and substitutions
Below is a brief overview of some of the ingredients and recommended substitutions. The recipe card at the end of this post includes the exact ingredients and quantities used.
- Eggs – You’ll need 6 large eggs for this frittata. I haven’t tested this recipe with egg whites only.
- Bacon – The recipe calls for 1/2 a cup of crumbled bacon, which is about 4 strips of cooked bacon. While I cook my own and crumble it, you can also buy it. Instead of bacon, try crumbled sausage or diced ham.
- Cream – Heavy cream works best to create the creamy and fluffy frittata texture.
- Spinach – Make sure to chop your fresh baby spinach so it spreads out more evenly in the frittata. You can substitute with chopped kale if you prefer.
- Red pepper – I always have red pepper on hand, but any color bell pepper will work. For a spicy kick, you can even add a little chopped jalapeño pepper.
- Green onion – You’ll need 1 sliced green onion. Feel free to substitute with chopped chives, shallots or red onion.
- Cheese – Shredded Swiss adds a subtle nutty flavor and cheesy goodness throughout the frittata. If you don’t have Swiss, try Gruyere, mozzarella or cheddar cheese. (I prefer full fat cheese instead of light as it melts better).
How to make a frittata in the air fryer
Below is a brief overview of the steps to make this recipe along with photos. For further details, please see the recipe card at the end of this post.
Storage and reheating tips
Refrigerate: Leftover frittata can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
Freeze: Place the cooled frittata in a freezer safe container or resealable bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
Reheat: Cover and microwave for 45-60 seconds, or until heated through. If the frittata is frozen, you’ll need to microwave a little longer. Don’t overheat as the frittata will get a bit rubbery. You can also reheat in the air fryer at 300F for 4-5 minutes.
Key recipe tips
- Use a pan that fits your air fryer. I used a 7-inch round cake pan that fits perfectly in my 5.8 quart air fryer. If you use a smaller pan, your frittata will be thicker and will take longer to cook.
- I don’t recommend covering with foil as this will block the flow of air that helps the frittata cook and brown on top.
- Let the frittata cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This will give it time to firm up and it will be easier to slice.
- As air fryers can differ, you may need to adjust the temperature and air frying time slightly for your brand or model.
Recipe FAQs
The frittata is cooked when it’s golden brown on top and the eggs are set in the middle.
It’s normal for a frittata or quiche to puff up while it cooks and then deflate a little when it’s removed from the heat. This air fried frittata will deflate a little and pull away from the sides of the pan as it cools. It shouldn’t sink in the middle though. That’s a sign that it may not be fully cooked in the middle.
You can substitute with dairy milk or plant-based milk but heavy cream is best for the creamy and fluffy texture.

Description
Air Fryer Frittata is creamy and fluffy with spinach, bacon and Swiss cheese. It’s quick to assemble and hands off as it cooks in the air fryer!
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup cooked crumbled bacon (about 4 slices)
- 1/2 cup chopped baby spinach
- 1/2 cup chopped red bell pepper
- 1/2 cup grated Swiss cheese
- 1 green onion, sliced
Instructions
- Grease a 7-inch round pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, salt and pepper.
- Place the bacon, spinach, red pepper, cheese and green onion in the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Pour the egg mixture over top. Use a fork, if necessary, to move the fillings around to make sure they’re spread out evenly.
- Carefully place the pan in the air fryer basket and air fry at 280F for 21-24 minutes, or until the frittata is golden brown on top and the egg mixture is set in the middle.
- Use oven mitts to carefully remove the pan from the basket. Let cool for a few minutes. The frittata will set up more and pull away from the sides of the pan, making it easier to slice and remove pieces.

- Use a pan that fits your air fryer. I used a 7-inch round cake pan that fits perfectly in a 5.8 quart air fryer. If you use a smaller pan, your frittata will be thicker and will take longer to cook.
