Crispy Air Fryer Chickpeas are a quick and healthy snack and work well as a gluten-free topping for salads, soups and noodle bowls. You need just a few ingredients and less than 25 minutes to make these crispy chickpeas in your air fryer.

Since we bought our air fryer last year, it has quickly become one of our most-used kitchen appliances. It’s great for creating crispy and crunchy food without using a whole lot of oil. Plus, it cooks food in about half the time as an oven, and who doesn’t want to save a little time when they’re trying to meal prep or get dinner on the table?!

Ingredients to make crispy air fryer chickpeas:

  • Can of chickpeas
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Seasonings

How to air fry chickpeas

  1. Drain and rinse your chickpeas and pat them dry using a paper towel or clean dish towel. If you want to remove the skins (this is optional), gently rub the chickpeas between two dish towels until the skins loosen. Pick out the skins and discard them (see photo above).
  2. Add the chickpeas, oil and seasonings to a bowl and toss everything together until the chickpeas are well coated. (For this recipe, I used garlic powder and salt, but you can use different herbs and spices).
  3. Place the chickpeas in the air fryer basket in a single layer and air fry on 350F for about 15-18 minutes. Stir or toss at the mid-way point. The chickpeas are done when they’re browned and crispy. If they’re still soft in the middle, air fry them for another few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do you air fry chickpeas for?

At 350F, chickpeas should take about 15-18 minutes to roast. If they’re not crispy, just air fry them for another few minutes.

How do you store crispy chickpeas?

These chickpeas are best enjoyed just out of the air fryer and cooled. If you’re making them in advance or have leftovers, you can store them at room temperature in an airtight container.

How long will crispy chickpeas last?

I like to enjoy these air fryer chickpeas right away, or within a few hours of them being air fried. They will start to loose some of their crispiness the longer they are stored. I suggest using them within a day or two.

Do you need to remove the skins from the chickpeas?

As mentioned above, this is optional. I usually end up removing some of the skins in the process of drying the chickpeas. And discarding any loose skins helps minimize little burnt pieces in your chickpeas. Just note that removing the skins will add another 5 minutes or so to your prep time.

What seasonings can you use for air fryer chickpeas?

These crispy chickpeas are seasoned with garlic powder and kosher salt, but you can use different herbs and spices, such as smoked paprika, oregano, chili lime seasoning, everything bagel seasoning or even cinnamon for a sweeter recipe.

Ways to enjoy air fryer roasted chickpeas

Add them to grain bowls or noodle bowls for extra heartiness and texture.

Use them in place of croutons in caesar salads or as a garnish for soups, such as this tomato soup.

Serve them at parties for a filling and wholesome nut-free snack.

Additional recipe tips

  • I use a Cuisinart air fryer/convection/toaster oven (not sponsored). Depending on the make and model of your air fryer, you may need to adjust the cook time or temperature slightly.
  • The recipe calls for no salt added chickpeas. If you use chickpeas with added salt, you may wish to reduce the amount of salt you add to the chickpeas before air frying. With that said, if you want your chickpeas saltier or more garlicky, feel free to add more seasoning.
  • While I usually use extra virgin olive oil for air frying, you can use other types of oil such as avocado or canola.
