If you love cheesy, golden brown mini pizzas, you’ll love this recipe for Air Fryer Mini Pizza made with naan bread! You only need 6 ingredients and they take just 9 minutes to air fry. You can change up the toppings to personalize them, and they make a great option for lunch, dinner or even an appetizer!
Pizza is on the dinner menu in our house at least once a week. Sometimes it’s take-out and sometimes it’s homemade pizza like this healthy homemade pizza. Other times, it’s a quick mini naan bread pizza, made even quicker in the air fryer!
These personal pizzas are great on their own for a light meal or snack, or pair them with a simple green salad, caesar salad or air fryer potato wedges for a full meal. You can even cut them into smaller pieces and serve them as a game day appetizer!
Why you’ll love this recipe
- The individual servings make them easy to personalize. The recipe includes vegetarian toppings, but you can add to it or change it up to include what you like!
- These mini pizzas require just 6 ingredients and take less than 10 minutes to cook in the air fryer. Even when you include time to assemble and air fry in two batches, you can have lunch or dinner ready in less than 30 minutes.
- You don’t need to use your oven to bake a few mini pizzas. This is a great option if you don’t want to heat up your kitchen on a hot summer day or you want to use your oven to cook or bake another recipe.
Details on the ingredients
This is a simple mini pizza recipe with basic toppings. I’ve kept it vegetarian but you can change it up with other topping options.
Naan breads – You’ll need 4 mini naan breads for this recipe. I usually buy them in bulk at Costco, keep them in the freezer and then defrost a few when ready to use. If you can’t find mini ones, just buy the full size. You can cut them in half, or just air fry one pizza at a time.
Sauce – I like to use homemade marinara sauce on my pizzas (it’s thicker than pizza sauce), but you can definitely use store-bought marinara or your favourite pizza sauce. In a pinch, you can also use tomato sauce and just add some dried herbs for seasoning.
Peppers – The recipe calls for one chopped bell pepper. I used a mix of red and green but you can just stick to one variety. You can also use a yellow or orange bell pepper, if you prefer. Just make sure the pepper is chopped into small pieces so it cooks quickly.
Onion – Red onion is my favourite on pizza, and the sweetness pairs well with the peppers. You can substitute white or yellow onion but they won’t have the same sweet flavour. Make sure the onion is thinly sliced for quick cooking.
Tomatoes – Since these are mini pizzas, I went with baby tomatoes and cut them in half. Grape or cherry tomatoes are a great option. If you only have a larger tomato, you can chop it up, but make sure it’s drained of juices. Otherwise, it can make the pizza a little watery or soggy.
Cheese – I like to use fresh mozzarella for pizzas as it melts nicely and has a lower sodium content than regular mozzarella. Feel free to use another type of cheese, if you prefer.
How to make a mini pizza in the air fryer
Spread a thin layer of sauce on top of each naan bread.
Layer on the toppings, ending with the cheese and tomatoes on top.
Place the pizzas in the air fryer basket. (You’ll need to air fry two at a time).
Air fry on 350F for 9-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges are golden brown. (If you like it extra crispy, air fry for another 1-2 minutes).
Use a spatula to carefully remove from the air fryer basket. Repeat with remaining pizzas.
Topping options
In addition to the toppings included in the recipe, here are a few more to try:
- Pepperoni or cooked bacon. Some crumbled air fryer turkey bacon would be delicious!
- Crumbled ground turkey or air fryer chicken meatballs (sliced or crumbled).
- Fresh minced garlic.
- Sliced or diced jalapeños.
- Chopped spinach or kale (place them under the other veggies so they don’t burn).
- Sliced fresh mushrooms (mushrooms release moisture as they cook, so don’t add too many as your pizzas might get soggy).
- Sliced black or green olives.
- Chopped fresh or dried herbs such as oregano or basil.
- Crushed red pepper flakes for serving.
Frequently asked questions
I tested a few different temperature settings and found that 350F was the ideal temperature. Any higher and you risk the cheese and naan bread browning too much before the veggies are cooked.
At 350F, the pizzas will only take 9-10 minutes to air fry per batch. I recommend adding another 1-2 minutes, if you like your pizzas extra golden brown and crispy. Just keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.
Store any leftovers in a single layer in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, just air fry on 350F for 4-5 minutes, or until heated through.
Yes! If you can’t find mini naan breads, just use the full size bread and air fry one pizza at a time. If the full size bread doesn’t fit in your air fryer, just cut it in half.
Key recipe tips
- This recipe was tested in a 5.8 quart Cosori air fryer. If you have a different size or brand of air fryer, you may need to adjust the temperature and air frying time slightly.
- If you have a small air fryer, you will need to air fry the pizzas individually.
- I didn’t preheat my air fryer, but if you normally do, feel free to preheat it before adding the pizzas. (Use a spatula to carefully place the pizzas in the hot basket).
- If your air fryer basket isn’t non-stick, you may need to spray the basket with oil to prevent sticking. You can also use parchment paper that’s sized for the air fryer and has small holes in it for air circulation. This is also great for easy clean up.
- If you find your cheese or other toppings are flying around your air fryer from the force of the air circulation, you can lay a trivet or air fryer rack over the pizzas. I haven’t found this to be an issue with the Cosori, but it can be an issue with some other air fryer styles and brands.
- I like the cheese on top so it gets golden brown. It also keeps the veggies from browning too much.
- I usually add the tomatoes on top of the cheese. If you put them on the bottom, they might make your naan bread a little soggy.
