Tips for hosting brunch (and making it easy on yourself)!

Keep things simple: Don't go overboard and overwhelm yourself. (Remember, you want to enjoy the meal and conversation with your guests too!) Focus on preparing 1-2 main dishes and a few side dishes. When we host brunch, I usually prepare a casserole that can act as a meal in itself, like this sweet potato breakfast casserole with eggs and ground turkey. On the side, I'll have bacon or sausage, a green salad, breakfast potatoes, toast and fruit.

Prep as many recipes as you can the day before: Overnight casseroles, like this french toast casserole with cherries, are perfect for brunches as they need to be made the day before. The prep work for other recipes can be done in advance too, like cutting fruit and veggies for salads and trays, or making breads and muffins.

Bake and freeze ahead of time: Another way to prep in advance is to make recipes days or weeks in advance and store them in the freezer until the day before your brunch. I usually do this for breads, muffins and cakes (like this blueberry lemon ricotta cake) as most can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months and easily thaw at room temperature.

Set your table the night before: This saves so much time. Even if you're not elaborate with your table settings, it's still a good idea to take time to set and organize your brunch table. You don't want to be rushed getting out your dishes and putting on any final touches when your guests are coming through the door.

Keep your food warm: Even if you don't overdo it on brunch options, you still might have an overcrowded oven, which makes it difficult to cook multiple dishes and keep them warm. In these situations, you can keep some food warming in the oven at a low heat, but you can also use warming trays, a crockpot, microwave, toaster oven or even an air fryer. These small kitchen appliances can help you cook your brunch dishes and/or keep them warm.
